Just A Horse Rescue and Sanctuary emerged out of a pursuit to inspire and support the community, and a desire for actions to speak louder than words. Meet Our Horses

At Just A Horse Rescue & Sanctuary we believe our horses are our most important team members and we're dedicated to providing a safe haven for them and other horses in need. Our sanctuary offers a loving environment where rescued horses can heal and thrive. Each horse has a unique story, and we work tirelessly to ensure they receive the care and attention they deserve. Join us in our mission to give these magnificent animals a second chance at life.

Athena

Athena is a senior mare who was living alone in a small paddock with no human interaction.

Lucky

Lucky, a blind mare in our sanctuary, was dropped off at a kill lot and we were able to rescue her.

Rayna

Rayna has been with us since birth and has become a calm, confident riding mare.

Red

Red is a senior gelding with only one eye. He's very friendly and enjoys attention.

Winston

Winston was being picked on by the other horses at a feed lot. It was decided he needed a safe place to land.

Summer

Summer is an ex-pacer who ended up in a kill lot because she had a hoof issue.

Springer

Springer is a Shetland pony who has been at the farm since 2008. He hangs out with Winston, roaming around.

Rosie

Rosie is a late 20's mare that her prior owner rescued from a kill pen. She loves spending time in the pasture.

Polly

Polly is currently being trained for riding and has proven to be a calm, responsive riding horse.

Penny

Penny is a sweet, 14-year-old Appaloosa mare with Degenerative Suspensory Ligament Desmitis.

Jet

Jet is the horse that began Elaine's passion for horses, which led to the formation of the sanctuary.

CiCi

Cookies ‘n Cream, CiCi for short, is a 20ish Appaloosa mare. She was rescued from a kill lot.

Hank

Hank is an 18 year old gelding who was surrendered to JAHRS. He is a 17 hand paint but is a lovable guy.

Midnight

Midnight is a senior mare who was initially not friendly. She now often comes to greet us in the pasture.

Sarge

Sarge was very thin when he was surrendered, due to his teeth being so worn he could not chew.

Willow

Willow is a 4-year-old mare who was surrendered to JAHRS.

Lacey

Lacey is a mare that was rescued several years ago, to live out her life at JAHRS.

Roscoe

Roscoe was surrendered to JAHRS due to being too laid back for his former owner's program.

Harmony

Harmony is a 17-year-old Appaloosa mare. She likes to make you work at catching her but then follows willingly.

Epona

Epona is very intuitive about humans' feelings and is a great help with their emotional care.

Millie

Millie is anxious when close to other horses but seems to enjoy human companionship.

Charlie

Charlie is a pony mare that was rescued from a kill lot. She now works with children in our riding program.

At Just A Horse Rescue & Sanctuary, our dedicated facilitators and trainers are passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of horses and the community. With a wealth of experience in equine care and rehabilitation, they bring a compassionate approach to their work, ensuring each horse receives the attention and training it deserves. Our team is committed to promoting understanding and respect for these wonderful animals, empowering others to join us in our mission of rescue and sanctuary. Together, we strive to create a safe haven for horses in need.

Elaine and Kate are both certified in Equine Assisted Learning through Equine Connection - The Academy of Equine Assisted Learning. Elaine is also certified in Horse Facilitated Grief Guide and has taken courses in Wellness and Balance. With the knowledge of horse culture and body language these courses provide as well as evidence-based outcomes, we can help participants look inside for the self-growth that horses can give to enhance their lives.

Facilitator

Elaine brings a wealth of experience and a deep passion for Equine-Assisted Wellness Programs. Her empathetic approach fosters a safe and supportive environment for participants, enabling them to connect with horses and themselves on a profound level. Elaine's expertise in understanding horse behavior enhances the learning experience, promoting personal growth and self-discovery.

Katarina Betts
Facilitator

Kate has a strong background in working with both horses and children, making her a great addition to our team. Her calm, accepting nature provides a safe space for participants to interact with the horses, to allow the understanding necessary for growth and healing. And her continuing education in horse/human relations enhances the experience for children and adults alike.

Sierra Clark
Trainer/Riding Instructor

Sierra is a skilled horse trainer with over five years of experience in equine training and behavior. She specializes in developing trust and communication between horse and rider, helping both horses and their owners achieve their goals through tailored training programs. Her dedication to the well-being of the horses and her expertise make her an exceptional choice for any training needs.

Meet Our Board of Directors

At Just A Horse Rescue and Sanctuary, our Board of Directors is the foundation of our organization and plays a strong role in our mission. They oversee the structure and policies, serve as a guide, and approve new services and major changes to the organization, as well as attend our events to help make them a success. They promote our mission of hope and compassion, not only for horses, but also for the humans we serve.
